I start with the way you have Alphone's head feather and Barry's hair flow through the air. The fur in Barry's coat is also very soft-looking. Barry's body language and expression simply add to his "tough guy" impression while contributing his puzzled sentiments. In fact, I feel that the emphasis on Barry is a better choice than Alphonse's, whose smugness(?) is better served subtly, his fingerwork dong all the expression. The little emoticons above them both minimally add to Alphone's smugness and emphasize Barry's puzzle. I should also say that there is something about the physics of Alphone's loincloth (that's what she said)... probably realism. Barry's belt buckle hanging out rather prominently adds to his clunk.
The colours here and lighting look quite soft. I even noticed how you used them to denote the textures on Barry's hair and coat fur, something that I wish to learn properly myself. I also note that having a blank background allows the viewer too focus on the two armoured men... then down to the chessboard.
In all, this picture is strong at contrasts.
